Helston & The Lizard
The Lizard, Britain's most southerly tip. Famous for it’s wonderfully sinuous and rugged cliffs carved from serpentine rock, with its variegated colours of red, green and silver, which has created an exceptionally beautiful coastline.
The cliffs and inland heath support a remarkable variety of rare wild flowers and distinctive heathers making it an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Small fishing villages can be found huddled into the cliffs around the coastline, with white washed cottages and colourful fishing boats hiding away from the Lizards savage waters.
Helston is the western gateway to the Lizard Peninsula and home to the famous Helston Furry Dance, a major folk event of the West Country held every May.
Helston prospered from 19th century tin and copper trading, as reflected in its handsome houses and streets in the oldest part of the town.
The Lizard Peninsula captivates the spirit that defines overall the magical world of West Cornwall.
